ESU BR 215 - 16V

The classes (BR) 215 and 216 diesel locomotives of the Western German Railway (DB) are used in mixed service since 1960. All 216 and 215 011 bis 070, 091-150 were equipped with a 16 cylinder 4 stroke main Diesel from Mercedes, Maybach or MTU that was later called MTU MD 16 V 652 TB that generates 1900 HP for traction. Also BR 217 had this Diesel for traction but with electrical steam heating. 215 and 216 had a steam boiler OK 4616 made by Hagenuk (licence given by Vapor Heating). A quite similar boiler had been used in some american GP7 and GP9 locos as steam heating equipment.
