  •   BR 141 / E41

In 1956 Deutsche Bundesbahn received the first sample of electric E41 (later BR 141) for lite commuter and freight service. The loco delivers 2400 kW and reaches a maximum speed of 120 km/h. Out of the factory any of the locos wore the the equipment for push-pull-service and multi-traction-service. In the late 1980s DB installed modern push-pull-electronics to use with modern S-Bahn and double stack commuter cars. Last 141 quitted service in 2006.

  •   BR 151

BR 151 For around 40 years the Class BR 151 represented the most important type for traction of fast and heavy freight trains for the State Railway of Federal Republic of Germany (DB). At the time of origin in the early 1970s the six axle loco were faster then any more powerful German loco. But it had also more traction power then any faster one. Krupp had designed the outer shape, the bogies were similar to the famous fast train loco BR 103. Traction motors WB 372-22 had been advanced types of the Einheitslok family. An extraordinary feature of BR 151 is the equipment for push-pull service with passenger trains. With its power of 8894 hp and a maximum speed of 120 km/h the loco had also been used in passenger service on relations with steep rises on schedule till the 1990s. For heavy drag service with 5400 ton coal trains some of the BR 151 is equipped with an automatic coupler. For the traction of those kind of trains the locos are used in consists. Even though the BR 151 had a hard life and many were scrapped yet, some few locos got a general inspection in 2010 to run for 8 years.

  •   BR 187 Last Mile Traxx 3

For new electric locomotive class 187 Bombardier used its experience with American ALP-45DP locos. The 187 develops 5600 kW in all electric mode and reaches a maximum speed of 140 km/h. A 180 kW diesel motor enables the loco to pull a train upon non-electrified tracks with 50 km/h. The first three samples of class 187 were bought by Railpool leasing company. Those locos were leased to Swiss BLS railway. ===> (swiss radio communication selectable via CV 48 = 1) <===

  •   BR 212 (V100 DB)

The diesel locomotive V100 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) had been developed in the late 1950s to replace the Prussian steam locos BR 38.10-40, BR 55 and 78. The locos had 12 cylinder four stroke motors with 1100 HP of MAN, Mercedes-Benz or Maybach. A pair of those motors also worked in the famous V200. The DB found out that the motors were not strong enough for some service so the DB ordered a stronger version of the V100.10 (later numbered as BR 211) named V100.20 (later BR 212). The 212 had a larger cooling system in the long hood and were slightly longer than the 211. They were powered by 1350 HP diesel motors of Mercedes-Benz or MAN. If a motor change had been necessary the motors had been replaced by MTU’s MB 12 V 652 TA. Both V100 types had been equipped with a 2 cyl. diesel motor to develop the electrical energy for the loco while the main diesel motor had not been working. The locos had a horn and a bell.

  •   BR 218

The classes (BR) 215 and 218 diesel locomotives of the Western German Railway (DB) are used in mixed service since 1968. 218 101 to 194, 218 242 to 288 were equipped with a 12 cylinder 4 stroke main Diesel from MAN that was later called MTU 12 V 956 TB10 that generates 2500 HP. The 2800 HP version of this motor is called MTU 12 V 956 TB11. In the late 1980s the exhaust system of BR 218 with the 12 V motor had been optimized. Since 1995 many of the 218 are equipped with motors called "MTU 12 V 956 TB11 NEU". The technical data stayed nearly the same but the exhaust detoxication improved again.

  •   BR 219 / V169

In 1965 German DB ordered the first diesel hydraulic locomotive with additional gas turbine power. The V169 001 delivered 3200 HP and reached a maximum speed of 130 km/h. The gas turbine worked automatically when the engineer activated the booster notch while the diesel motor works in (highest) notch 15. In 1974 after around 9 years in heavy passenger service the now called 219 001 had a defective gas turbine so DB dismounted this booster and used the loco for 3 additional years.

  •   BR 23

In 1949 the Deutsche Bundesbahn had ordered 105 locos of Class 23 steam locomotives to replace old-fashioned Prussian P8 locos. The 2 cylinder locos developed 1785 HP and reached a maximum speed of 110 km/h. They were used for passenger service, sometimes also for fast trains. Last 23 quitted service in 1975, but eight locos can be found at railroad museums in Germany and the Nederlands.
