  •   BR93

The Prussian State Railway KPEV developed the 2-8-2 tender locos T14 and T14.1 (later BR 93.0-4 and 93.5-12) for regional passenger and freight service. The locos developed 1000 HP and reached a maximum speed of 65 and 70 km/h. The last locos quitted service at the German State Railways DB and DR in the late 1960s.

  •   Big Boy

With a total weight of 548,3t and a power of 6.290 HP (@48 km/h) the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) class 4000 locomotives (well know as "Big Boy") is one of the most powerful steam locomotives on the world. The American Locomotive Company (ALCO) built a total of 25 units between 1941 and 1944. At a maximum speed of 112 km/h (70mph) the Big boy is also the fastest articulated steam engine at all.

  •   BR 23

In 1949 the Deutsche Bundesbahn had ordered 105 locos of Class 23 steam locomotives to replace old-fashioned Prussian P8 locos. The 2 cylinder locos developed 1785 HP and reached a maximum speed of 110 km/h. They were used for passenger service, sometimes also for fast trains. Last 23 quitted service in 1975, but eight locos can be found at railroad museums in Germany and the Nederlands.

  •   BR 44 Öl

BR 44 had been the most successful steam loco for heavy freight trains at the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG). Between 1926 an end of WWII 1989 units of the 3 cylindred 2-10 had been built. They developed 1919 HP and reached a maximum speed of 80 km/h. In the 1950s Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) and Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) rebuilt 36 (DB) and 95 (DR) with oil firing equipment.

  •   Märklin® BR38 P8

The Prussian P8 locos probably is the best known German steam loco ever. At nearly any German territory P8 (later BR 38.10-40) locos had been used often for more than 50 years. The dependable two cylinder locos delivered 1180 HP and reached a maximum speed of 100 km/h. After WW II 1200 locos stayed at DB, another 700 at DR. P8 also had been used in Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Austria, Poland, Rumania, Czechoslovakia and Turkeye.

Please note that this file is prepared to be used with the Märklin® BR38 P8 model. It uses the integrated SUSI-Module for light control.

  •   RhB G 4/5

In the early 1900s narrow gauge railway RhB of Switzerland needed stronger locos. Swiss locomotive manufacturer SLM Winterthur built 29 samples of 2-4-0 locos G 4/5. The locos deliver 800 HP and reach a maximum speed of 45 km/h. After electrification of the whole rail net RhB sold or scrapped the locos except for two samples that rest in Switzerland for snow clearance duty or for railfan trains.

  •   BR 52

Two cylinder steam locomotive BR 52 had been developed out of the BR 50 during WWII. With the maximum axle weight of only 15.4 tons and a maximum speed of 80 km/h the 52 had been used for freight and passenger service. After WWII few locos had remained at DB. At DR (GDR State Railway) and many other European state railways the locos stayed in service often till the 1980s.

  •   BR 64 - Piko

The Class 64 steam locomotive entered service at former Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft in 1928. The multipurpose loco had been used for light passenger and freight service on main and branch lines. A maximum speed of 90 km/h made her a popular runner until scrap in the early 1970s. Today some locos belong to railroad museums that are used in service on fan trip trains.

This file had been designed exclusively for use in 2013 edition of Piko G scale model of BR 64.

  •   BR98.10

    Deutsche Bundesbahn

All 45 98.10 locomotives were recovered after 1945 by the Deutsche Bundesbahn, and continued to be used exclusively in their native Bavaria. Though the locomotives were initially indispensable, they were put out to pasture after the advent of the "Roter Brummer" rail bus, especially those used in passenger train service. Many of the locomotives were still used after this time, in freight service especially. DB did not make any more major changes or improvements; in the late 50s, they added a third headlight. If the coal bin or the water tanks had to be replaced due to corrosion, the new parts frequently arose from welding technology. In 1950 the locomotives were distributed to the three directorates of Munich, Augsburg and Regensburg. The great majority of the locomotives were headquartered at ED (railway district management) Regensburg, which took in 28 units as their own. There was also 98 1041, which served the Schwandorf depot. In 1953 it joined five other 98.10 locomotives in the Straubing depot, from which they mainly ran freight trains to Cham and Neufahrn. The performance logs of a sister locomotive from this period report daily mileages between 55 km and 159 km. 13 tons of coal were consumed for every 1000 km. The 98 1041 was decommissioned in 1961 and sold for scrap. Few sister locomotives were older. The last one was 98 1005 of the Schwandorf depot, which was decommissioned in 1966. Unfortunately, none of the modern Bavarian Vizinalbahn locomotives exist today.
